Samantha Fiallo

Samantha Fiallo is an MCDB PhD candidate working in the Joel Rothman lab. Her research focuses on the genetic information found inside the organelle responsible for making cellular energy, the mitochondria. Using C. elegans as a model organism, Sam aims to characterize mito-nuclear genetic combinations that can one day eradicate mitochondrial disease. Samantha is also especially passionate about science communication and STEM educational outreach. As a supermentor, Sam works to support students as they navigate the world of undergraduate research as well as make plans for post-graduation. Her goal is for every CSEP scholar to take advantage of all opportunities throughout their college career to learn more about themselves, their interests, and their science. She also enjoys learning from her mentees, so she can sound very smart and interesting to other people. Make sure to say hello if you catch her floundering on her wavestorm at Campus Point!
