Applications Announced: Undergrad Research Programs
The Center for Science and Engineering Partnerships hosts undergraduate research internships each summer where scholars embark on either an 8 or 10-week journey that consists of research, mentorship professional development, networking, and more. The program offers students a unique opportunity to become immersed in the scientific community and develop as future leaders in the community.
Applications for the 2023 incoming cohorts will open on December 1st. There is one common application for students to apply for any of the four undergraduate research programs offered through CSEP. While the application will not go live until the morning of December 1, 2023, applicants may find information on the application materials, including the statement of purpose prompts, on the individual program's websites.
Students will have the opportunity to attend an informational session in the Fall 2023 or Winter 2024 quarter, with dates to be announced soon. If you have any questions, please contact the Research Programs Coordinator, Sofi (sofi@csep.ucsb.edu).
About the Programs:
The MARC Scholars Program is designed to increase the numbers of individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds or who are underrepresented in the biomedical sciences by improving their preparation for Ph.D. graduate training at outstanding universities nationwide Students appointed to the MARC U-STAR program embark on 24 months of research scholarship in their final two years of undergraduate training, typically junior and senior years.
Funded by the Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation, the Beckman Scholars Program seeks to foster the next generation of creative thinkers by stimulating, encouraging, and supporting research by outstanding undergraduates who have demonstrated the desire and potential for becoming future scientific leaders. Scholars embark on a 15 month program designed to enrich their development as students and scientists through innovative research, mentoring, collaboration and practice in effective communication. The program offers students a unique opportunity to become immersed in the scientific community.
The mission of the SACNAS Scholars Program is to train the next generation of diverse STEM leaders. SACNAS Scholars will have the opportunity to engage in both hands-on research training in a UCSB STEM faculty lab during an 8-week intensive summer program, and academic year leadership development. Scholars also receive funding and support for professional development or training that will inform and prepare Scholars for post-graduation career opportunities or advanced academic pursuits.
The EUREKA! Scholars Program is an 8-week summer program designed to enrich the academic experience of undergraduates at UCSB in science, technology, mathematics and engineering (STEM) disciplines early on in their educational careers. The program is focused on introducing students in their first year to the broader science community on campus and providing exposure to research through academic year internships.
