Professional Development Series (PDS) Summer Mentor Training Series 2021 The Center for Science and Engineering Partnerships (CSEP) is hosting a 2 part series of mentor training workshops open to anyone who will be mentoring this summer wanting to grow and develop their mentoring skills. Zoom links will be provided after registration.   Designing an Undergraduate Research Project Workshop Leader: David Weld, Associate Professor, 2020-2021 recipient of the Chancellor's Faculty Award for Undergraduate Research Mentoring, Department of Physics, UCSB How do you determine the right scope and level of research for your summer intern? What should you consider? This interactive workshop will tackle those questions and also present ideas for how to nurture your intern’s independent thinking, how to deal with set-backs and how to check student progress. Friday, June 4th 12:00 –1:15 PM, Zoom   Communicating Effectively with your Mentee Workshop Leader: Samantha Davis, CSEP Undergraduate Research Program Coordinator, CNSI, UCSB Students new to research (especially those from underrepresented groups in STEM) may be unsure of how to handle power dynamics they perceive in research relationships, and consequently avoid asking for what they need from a research mentor.
